Empanada de A Bandeira Bread Pie Festival

Since 1974, A Bandeira, in Silleda, has been presenting the most original empanadas in an event in which catering professionals and locals strive to surprise. They do so by varying presentations, experimenting with ingredients or searching for the most peculiar flavour. And they succeed, because at the Fiesta de la Empanada the number of people attending is in the thousands, especially at dinner time, when the varieties of this unique recipe so typical of As Rías Baixas and Galicia as a whole are tasted.

The Fiesta de la Empanada is a tribute to one of the most popular recipes of Galician gastronomy. It is organised by the Association of Friends of the Empanada, which is also responsible for choosing the best empanadas in Galicia.

Throughout the day, professionals from the local catering trade and local residents contribute their creations to be exhibited at the festival stands. Afterwards, a competition takes place in which an expert jury chooses the best empanadas. It is then that one of the most unique moments of the A Bandeira Empanada Festival begins, a popular dinner in which dozens of groups and families taste the different empanada recipes.

Every year this celebration surprises with its originality, as the participants strive to show the most surprising creations, whether for their flavour, the ingredients used or the presentation.
