O Rosal Wine Fair

O Rosal toasts to its wines

The wineries of O Baixo Miño showcase their wines at this great festival

The attendance at the O Rosal Wine Fair is usually estimated at several thousand people. The festival becomes a tribute to the wines with the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin, in which numerous wineries show their wines to visitors.

In addition to savouring the different varieties of wine, O Rosal offers a festival in which, as in the whole province of Pontevedra, gastronomy also plays an important role. There is no shortage of tapas, seafood from the Galician coast and omelettes. Visitors come to O Rosal attracted by the quality of its wines, and not only from the rest of the province, but also from different parts of Spain and the neighbouring country of Portugal.

Regarding the origin of the wine tradition in the area, it is believed that the vineyards of O Rosal date back to Roman times. It was later the monks of the monastery of Santa María de Oia who tended the plantations that today produce young, fruity wines.

The wines of O Rosal belong to one of the five sub-zones of the Rías Baixas D.O., whose white wines, especially Albariño, are appreciated all over the world. The climatic characteristics of the province of Pontevedra, with its proximity to the sea and low stretches of riverbeds, pleasant temperatures and well-distributed rainfall, are conducive to these elegant and fresh wines that receive prestigious distinctions every year.

Some of the wineries offer the possibility of getting to know the growing, harvesting and production process. Adegas Val Miñor, Quinta de Couselo, Terras Gauda, Lagar de Fornelos, Bodegas Aldea de Abaixo, Destilería Pazo Valdomiño and Santiago Ruíz are among the most representative.

At the O Rosal Wine Fair, the wineries and vineyards are, therefore, an authentic reference point for the wine tourism sector in the province. In addition, edition after edition, the event offers proposals for the whole family, such as children's activities, sports or music. Thus, with the reading of the proclamation and the opening of the fair in the Plaza de O Calvario, three days of traditional music and street entertainment groups will take place in the town.

To walk

In addition to its wines, O Rosal offers many reasons to visit the municipality. One example is the route around the mills of O Folón and O Picón, declared Sites of Cultural Interest, or the Río Miño-Tamuxe fishermen's trail, among other resources.
