Gold-producing strains

The Rías Baixas appellation offers splendid red and white wines

The Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin is named after the area where it is located: the south of the Galician Rías Baixas, coinciding in extension with the province of Pontevedra. This area is characterised by a mild Atlantic climate, which is ideal for the production of these wines that harmonise perfectly with fish, the flavour of seafood and the latest creations of seafood cuisine. The wines of the Rías Baixas D.O. are ideal to be enjoyed as an aperitif or as part of the most refined gastronomy.

There are five sub-zones within this designation of origin, with different characteristics (O Val do Salnés, Condado de Tea, Soutomaior, O Rosal and Ribeira do Ulla) and where the wines are made exclusively from grapes of the following varieties:

  • Preferred white varieties: albariña, loureira blanca or marqués, treixadura and caíño blanco.
  • Preferred red varieties: caíño tinto, espadeiro, loureira tinta and sousón.
  • Authorised white varieties: torrontés and godello
  • Authorised red varieties: mencía, brancellao, pedral and castañal

The white wines of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin are dry wines with sharp, floral and intensely fruity aromas, with a very fine and prolonged aftertaste. The wines of the O Rosal and Condado de Tea types are distinguished by the fact that they are made from the loureira and treixadura varieties, respectively. They have intense aromas and a slight acidity, but are pleasant and attractive.

The wine tourism of As Rías Baixas is internationally recognised, and the fact is that As Rías Baixas is a territory of flavour in which the vineyards incorporate a unique chromatism to the beautiful landscapes that it possesses.
