The remains of the old parish church of Saint Mariña, patron saint of Cambados, are located at the foot of the hill of A Pastora near a castro (pre-Roman hillfort settlement). It was built by Lope Sánchez de Ulloa on top of a Romanesque chapel in the 12th century and restored and enlarged by his daughter, María de Ulloa (mother of Alfonso III de Fonseca), in the late 15th century. It was built in a mariner Gothic style, but it also has traces of the Renaissance style. It has a single nave separated by four Romanesque transversal arches and five side chapels, the sacristy and the high altar. The arches and chapels are decorated with spheres, and one of the arches depicts the seven capital sins. The chapels have reliefs depicting biblical scenes, such as the visitation, Christ and the apostles, the expulsion from paradise and the capital sins. It was abandoned due to political and religious reasons in the 19th century and the parish church was moved to the old convent of Saint Francis. Since then it has been used as a parish cemetery and it was declared the third most important funerary monument in Spain by the prestigious Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe (ASCE).
