The building of this bridge started in 1898. The structure was finished in one year. To build it, they needed to put two masonry stirrups in the margins and two large pairs of cylindrical metal piles braced in the middle of the river. Finally, the railway line to Santiago started working on 23 July 1899 and the bridge was used for 67 years.
