The route known as Camiño da Geira e dos Arrieiros is a 240 kilometres-long Hispanic-Lusitanian Jacobean route that starts at Braga and ends at Santiago de Compostela.
Its name was chosen in accordance with its historical origins, as its first stretch matches the Via XVIII Roman road, also known as Geira, that connected Braga (Bracara Augusta) to Astorga (Asturica Augusta) and its second stretch matches the route used by pilgrims and mule drivers (arrieiros in Galician) on their way to Ribadavia and later to Santiago de Compostela. The Camiño da Geira e dos Arrieiros is a beautiful, intricate route with plenty of guiding markers.
The route was brought back to life thanks to the efforts of the great research team of the Codeseda Viva Association, who marked out the trail taking as a reference documents dating back to 1589, to highlight the historical character of this route.
