It springs from the confluence of two branches, one of which is from the southern part of the O Suído mountain range (around 900 m above sea level and another 940 m above sea level) at the Avión lighthouse, on the border between the provinces of Ourense and Pontevedra. It laps the municipalities of Covelo, Mondariz, Mondariz-Balneario, Ponteareas and Salvaterra de Miño, where it flows into the River Miño. Its basin covers an area of 411 km². To begin with, it runs between steep gaps and opens up in the Mondariz valley, crossing through Ponteareas, before ending up at the Miño.
