This bridge is situated over the Miño River and connects the historic cities of Tui (Spain) and Valença do Minho (Portugal) both by road and rail. Legend says it was built by Eiffel's apprentice in 1884, but it was actually designed by Riojan engineer Pelayo Mancebo. It was officially inaugurated in 1886.
This is a lattice girder bridge formed by a long metal structure in the shape of a drawer that rests on top of thick stone pillars. For more than a century it has been a part of the typical surroundings of Tui and Valença do Minho, both of which have a history full of military fights.
