Together with the beach of A Concha, this large sandy area connects the parish of Carril to the town centre of Vilagarcía. People from Santiago de Compostela used to visit this beach en masse due to its proximity to the rail tracks, hence the name. Additionally, it offers visitors the chance to see shellfish gatherers working at low tide.
