The parish church of Santa María of Taboexa is a sample of the Renaissance style. It was rebuilt towards 1544 on top of the remains of the primitive Romanesque building, which must have had a tower of defensive purposes due to its sturdy structure. As it was built and modified several times throughout its history, it preserves architectonic and decorative vestiges from different artistic styles. It preserves a portal composed by a semi-circular arch covered by a small rain-proof roof. On this façade, of Baroque style, we must highlight two medallions representing two heads that, for lack of better guesses, are believed to represent the founders’ faces. It has four coats of arms that represent the old families that were part of this church. The architectonic ensemble is circled by a small wall with a Via Crucis. Inside, the vault formed by semi-circular arches and the sculptures of San Benito and San Mamede stand out.
