Four hundred animals and a hundred and fifty different species live in this Galician zoo on the peak of the mountain of A Madroa, located over the estuary of Vigo at 340 metres above sea level and 10 km from the city centre. It was established at the beginning of the 1970s as a traditional zoo, and today it is a centre for the recovery of endangered species, a meeting point for both native and non-native species, and an education centre for environmental and natural sciences. Apart from the animals living there on a permanent basis, Vigozoo also holds temporary exhibitions.
