Traditionally, people would follow this route at night on their pilgrimage to the sanctuary of A Franqueira, especially during the days leading up to the A Franqueira procession.
Many kings and queens took this path, such as Doña Urraca, who would come from Castille to visit her properties. This route is connected to the Way of Saint James when it reaches Redondela.
