Quiñones de León was created after a pazo (a traditional manor house) was donated to the city of Vigo in 1924 with the objective of establishing a museum. The donation was not finalised until ten years later, but the collections began to be selected then with the aim of putting into context the heritage of the city.
The building, together with the gardens, is an important feature of the museum, as the original structure has been well preserved. Its art collection is composed of more than 1,500 pieces including sculptures, paintings, engravings and applied arts. The museum also contains artefacts from many archaeological sites of different periods, both from Vigo and other parts of Galicia and the Iberian Peninsula. These collections provide a valuable opportunity for anyone wishing to learn more about the city of Vigo from the 15th century to the present day.
