Know more about
Cerdedo Cotobade

Located at more than 700 metres above sea level, Monte Coirego Viewpoint is one of the most remarkable natural balconies in inland Pontevedra. From its summit, visitors can enjoy wide panoramic views over the mountain ranges, forests and valleys of Cerdedo-Cotobade, in a setting where nature remains the true protagonist.

This site stands out for the breadth of its views and the sense of tranquillity at the summit. A panoramic bench invites visitors to pause and take in a landscape that changes with every season, offering especially stunning views at sunrise and sunset. The mountain also features hiking routes and a small seasonal lake known as Campo da Poza, which adds a unique charm to the area.

Monte Coirego also has significant astronomical value. Its location, far from major urban centres and with very low light pollution, makes it an exceptional place for stargazing. Nearby lies the Cotobade Astronomical Observatory, a reference centre for scientific outreach and public engagement with astronomy.

Local tradition adds a legendary dimension to the site, linked to old stories of hidden treasures and mythical beings associated with the mountain. Nature, landscape, intangible heritage and astronomy come together in this unique inland Galician setting.

For this reason, Monte Coirego Viewpoint is part of the “Baixo o Ceo das Rías Baixas” Astrotourism Network, an initiative that highlights some of the best locations in the province of Pontevedra for observing the night sky.
