This island is located in front of the estuary of Pontevedra and has a long and even coastline. It consists of low cliffs in the west and a rocky area with sandy patches in the east, which includes a beach and the dunes of Melide. The island of Onza is round and rocky. Contrary to Ons, it never had a population centre. Ons is inhabited to this day, and it offers visitors the characteristics of a small rural coastal town, where hórreos (traditional raised granaries) are still used to store the harvest and legends are still told. A lighthouse dominates the landscape, still occupied by lighthouse keepers. Ons is a part of the Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park.
