The founding of the Convent of San Francisco is attributed to St Francis of Assisi during his pilgrimage to the Apostle’s tomb in 1214, although there is no documentary evidence for this. This is a masterwork of mendicant Gothic from Pontevedra. Its church was built between the 14th and 15th centuries, and it has Latin cross floor-plan. The façade, even though it has suffered several modifications, still has the remains of the old construction, featuring the modern-age rose window, between two buttresses in the main door. Inside is the tomb of Paio Gómez Chariño, a troubadour and sea admiral, to the left of the main altar; and the tomb of the married couples from noble families. There is also the image of Nazarenodel from the 19th century and different mural paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1896 it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument
