The Church of San Bartolomeu is one of the few examples that we have in Galicia of Italian Baroque. It was built between 1696 and 1714. Inside there is an extraordinary set of Baroque alters and sculptures, attributed to major artists such as Pedro de Mena, Gregorio Fernández, Pedro de Campo and Bieito Silveira, from the Compostela and Castilian schools. Particularly striking is the image of Our Lady “de la O”, patron saint of the city, as well as the image of Mary Magdalene. The front is adorned with columns, mantles and windows, and heraldic symbols of noble families such as the Andrade, Arando and Guillarei families. The building next door, which used to be known as the Sarmiento Building, was the headquarters of the School of the Society of Jesus and it currently belongs to Pontevedra Museum
