This festival began when a privilege by King Henry IV was granted in 1467 establishing a tax-free market, which lasted until the late 16th century. Pontevedra has celebrated the event since 1999 by adorning its most famous streets and squares, and even the locals dress up. It was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in 2013 for the quality and cultural value the city holds when it returns to the Middle Ages.

Origin and history
Su origen recrea el privilegio concedido por el rey Enrique IV en el año 1467 a la ciudad para celebrarse un mercado libre de impuestos, y su celebración se prolongó hasta finales del siglo XVI. Para conmemorarlo, Pontevedra se mimetiza por completo, se caracterizan sus calles y plazas emblemáticas y, sus habitantes y asistentes cuidan hasta el vestuario. Se celebra desde 1999 y en 2013 recibió el reconocimiento de interés turístico gallego, por su calidad y programación cultural en la que la ciudad vuelve a la Edad Media.
