Colección de arte Francisco Fernández del Riego. Casa Galega da Cultura

This collection is housed in the cultural centre Casa Galega da Cultura. Francisco Fernández del Riego (Vilanova de Lourenzá, 1913) donated his bibliographical, documentary and art collections to the city of Vigo in 1995, where he lived and worked for many years and where he focused most of his efforts. The collection includes more than 20,000 works, as well as the correspondence over several decades between Fernández del Riego and other significant figures in the Galician movement and intellectualism during the interwar period. The art collection is the most relevant, highly representative of the Galician art of the late 19th century. It is composed of 254 pieces, 79 of which are paintings from artists such as Maside, Castelao, Minguillón, Díaz Pardo, Torres, Colmeiro, Ruibal and Granell. It also includes pieces from sculptors Faílde Gago and Elena Colmeiro, as well as photographs and personal objects that confirm the importance of Fernández del Riego as a Galician intellectual and friend of the arts. Chronologically, the first collection of the museum is by Ovidio Murguía, son of Murguía and Rosalía de Castro.
